Contact the seller for a refund on the returned item. Hi einbus9 My understanding is that 'mint condition' means the item is indistinguishable from 'brand new'. For vinyl you used to get 'mint - unplayed'.

But if the record isn't sealed, the only real way to tell if there's any wear is to play it and listen Pecker said:. PoochJD Distinguished Member. Hi, As others have correctly pointed out, many people who collect specific items, e.

The only problem though, especially with somewhere like eBay and Amazon, is that everyone uses different criteria. Personally, I go along the following lines, but will always check specifically with the seller of the item I'm interested in, whether the item fulfills my opinions of being in Mint or Used condition before buying or bidding on it: Mint - The item is in perfect, and will almost certainly be unused condition; has not been opened unless doing so can be done without actually damaging the packaging the item comes in.

There are no scratches, dents or other visible damage, and - to all intents and purposes - the item is literally in A1 perfect condition - possibly even in better condition than one being sold as new in a retail outlet e. Item will have been kept in a special, stored condition, as to avoid excessive temperatures, excessive sunlight or damp, and will have been preserved in some form, by protective coverings, or a container of some sort. Or, perhaps the item has been opened, read or played once, but is still in A1 perfect condition.

Then you get other grades like: Excellent Condition - Item may have been opened or used, but everything including the packaging is still in perfect condition.

However, the item is not "new" and unused! Very Good - Similar to above, but there may be minor issues, e. Light, noticeable defects, like a scratch or scuff mark on the packaging, or a price ticket or other that is on the packaging, or even a pencil mark on the book or comic.

Good or Used: Like New- Item has probably been used or owned for a good period of time, and is second-hand, but still of some worth to fans rather than collectors, if it's been kept in nice condition. However, this would not be something a hardcore collector would accept, unless it was purely for them to use themselves. Used, Okay, Reasonable or Acceptable Condition - Heavy usage, probably some damage, such as a tear, quite severe scratches or dents to the packaging having been opened with care-and-attention.

Price tickets have been removed, or something is missing or damaged. Might be acceptable if you simply want to play it or read it, but not for collectors. This would be an item that someone wants to buy relatively cheaply, in comparison to a brand new version of the same, and is absolutely described as being "Second hand". It's the kind of thing you might expect to find in a good second-hand shop or charity shop, but not a jumble or car-boot sale perhaps.

And even then, the item may not be complete e. Scrap or Other - Item is almost worthless, and will barely be fit-for-purpose.

Lastly, I do think that the AVForums should have some kind of grading system we could use, when it comes to selling stuff via the Classifieds Section, but I know it would be difficult to apply it, and it is still open to abuse. What one person sees as being a mint condition product, someone else may say that it's only in very good condition.

I like it very much and snagged it up for a good price but I feel as though the seller really doesn't know the meaning of mint. It has a crack in the band and obvbious signs of wear. Vintage and mint are two separate descriptions. You probably shouldn't be buying a used vacuum as a gift for someone then, that's like claiming this hammer from used to build the transcontinental railroaid is not in mint condition how dare you!

If the buyer should leave a negative feedback you may be able to get it removed.
