What is special about COBS is the access we have to spectacular landscapes. Many of the wilderness areas our students travel through are difficult to get permits for; some have been restricted over the years to protect delicate ecosystems. Thanks to long-standing partnerships with land agencies , we have the privilege of getting to see these pristine and remote areas where few people go.

The largest and most successful experience-based outdoor leadership organization in the world, Outward Bound was founded over 60 years ago by celebrated educator Kurt Hahn to provide active learning expeditions that inspire character development and leadership.

The Outward Bound community now consists of more than 40 centers operating in over 35 countries and works with an estimated , students annually. The first courses were a month-long and included an expedition across three mountain ranges, rescue training and volunteer work in the local community.
